TMJ Treatment

Those who suffer from the aches of TMJ often visit various medical fields to find a solution for this condition; some of these fields include neurology, physical therapy, and psychology. However, our TMJ dentist in Riverside will create a treatment plan that focuses on the patient’s bite and jaw. This is the first step is to determine what is causing the TMJ disorder.

Some of the common sources of your ailments may be your bite (occlusion), unconscious clenching or grinding (bruxism), degenerative joint conditions, trauma, and/or excessive chewing habits, such as gum chewing and nail biting. Dr. Kim will perform tests in order to determine the necessary treatment. He may recommend splint therapy with a Maxillary Anterior Guided Orthotic (MAGO); this is a special appliance worn on the teeth for a limited period of time. Some cases may require more permanent use and prescribed medication to help ease the pain.

In rare cases, Dr. Kim will recommend surgical jaw movement; however, actual TMJ surgery should only used as a last resort. Our TMJ dentist of the Inland Empire will do his best to help patients relieve their complications.
